The Alex Tumang Charity Game organized by Sunday Hoops in conjunction with the newly formed nonprofit organization Fil-Can Hoops and Beyond Cochrane offered plenty of excitement while raising funds for youth programs in Philippines.
The $405 raised at the Sept. 14 charity game is being used to buy basketballs for youth in the Philippines by Fil-Can (Filipino-Canadian) Hoops and Beyond Cochrane. The organization was recently registered a new nonprofit organization with the goal of promoting health, camaraderie and support to the community.
Mike Bautista says the appearance of well-known Filipino actor/comedian Kuya Jobert added to the buzz of the evening.
"He's now based out of Calgary, and he brought a lot of energy and fun to the evening," says Bautista.
Two lucky participants had chance to win and choose their beneficiary in the Philippines.
Bautista says they are currently organizing a two-day basketball camp this fall to teach the basics of basketball to Cochrane youth.
