The Town of Nanton has announced the resignation of one of its town council members.
Councillor Kevin Todd has resigned, due to "increased professional responsibilities and personal commitments," according to a release from the Town.
Todd was elected to Nanton's town council in 2021, and ran as a provincial candidate for the Livingstone-Macleod riding in 2023, first for the United Conservative Party, and then for the Alberta Party.
In its September 17 release announcing Todd's departure, the Town thanked him for his service and wished him well with his future endeavours.
"During his time on Council, Councillor Todd has been a dedicated and valued member, contributing thoughtfully to the growth and development of our community. His commitment to serving Nanton has been greatly appreciated," the release partially reads.
As for the plan moving forward, the release states that Nanton's mayor and council are "currently working on a plan to ensure continued effective representation for all residents of Nanton."
The Town hasn't announced plans for a by-election to fill the vacant council seat, and as per the Municipal Government Act, a by-election isn't required since the resignation falls within 18 months of the next scheduled municipal election.
