Olds RCMP seized 560 grams of suspected fentanyl and arrested a 25-year-old resident of Olds during a drug investigation at a local hotel on August 31.

Mounties stated that they attended a room at a local hotel while continuing an ongoing drug investigation, where officers engaged with the room occupant.

"...At that time, they were invited into the room. Once inside the room, officers observed a quantity of what they believed to be Fentanyl. The male was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for trafficking, and the room was secured. A warrant to search was obtained."

On September 1, the Olds RCMP Crime Reduction Unit, Olds RCMP, Didsbury RCMP, and the Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement and Response Team (CLEAR) executed the search warrant and seized not only the suspected fentanyl but also just under 100 grams of suspected cocaine; as well as 12 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 680 contraband cigarettes, and other items often used when trafficking drugs.

Jacob Donkin has been charged with possession for trafficking, mischief and two provincial offences relating to cigarettes.

"Drug enforcement continues to be a priority for the Olds RCMP to ensure the safety and security of the public. We will continue to work in partnership with other agencies and members of the public to ensure that we deal aggressively with drugs and drug dealers in our community," Mounties noted.

Donkin was held for a judicial interim release hearing and was released to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Didsbury on October 21.
