The South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League will operate with 10 teams when season 73 begins next month. The Morden Bombers, Winkler Royals, Carman Beavers, Notre Dame Hawks, Portage Islanders, Warren Mercs, Red River Wild, Ile des Chenes Northstars, Springfield Winterhawks and the two-time defending champion Ste. Anne Aces confirmed their status for the 2024-25 season at the league's fall meeting Tuesday night in Carman. The Winterhawks application to join the league was accepted in late May. The Altona Maroons, who were one of the original five teams when the SEMHL was founded in 1951, have taken a one-year leave of absence due to a lack of players ending the team's 72-year run of playing in the league.

The Kane County Cougars are 2024 American Association champions. Josh Allen and Alex McGarry stroked back-to-back rbi singles in the top of the seventh snapping a 3-3 tie as the Cougars defeated the Winnipeg Goldeyes 5-3 Tuesday night at Blue Cross Park and swept the best-of-five Miles Wolff Cup final in three straight. Kane County closer Tyler Beardsley came on in the ninth to shutdown the Goldeyes’ comeback attempt after Winnipeg brought the tying run to the plate.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have added quarterback Darren Grainger, defensive end Brandon Wright, defensive back Russell Dandy and receiver Penny Hart to the practice roster. All four players are Americans. The Blue Bombers (7-6) are in first place in the CFL's West Division and will face the Elks in Edmonton on Saturday.

World Cup champion Spain will host Canada in a women's soccer friendly next month. The match will be Canada's first since losing to Germany on penalty kicks in the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics. Canada advanced out of the group stage in Paris despite being docked six points in the fallout of a drone spying scandal.
