Wayne Richard Shaw
January 22, 1948 – September 17, 2024
Wayne Richard Shaw was born January 22, 1948 in Saskatoon, SK. He spent a lot of his childhood years living in Alberta with an Aunt and Uncle.
When he returned to Saskatoon, he attended High School at Mount Royal Collegiate.
Shortly after graduating High School, he joined the Armed Forces, and was part of the Canadian Army RCEME out of Petawawa, Ontario. He spent 7 years serving his country.
When he left the Service, he used his training to find employment as a mechanic at various locations.
He met his wife Sandra Crook, in 1974 in Humboldt, SK and together they traveled the Prairie Provinces, and raised their family.
Wayne was very good at many things and could always find work whenever they went. Some of his occupations include mechanic, carpentry, painting and renovating, driving truck, Penitentiary Guard for Corrections Canada in Prince Albert, Supervisor at a sheltered workshop for people with disabilities, and most recently he was in charge of the Tool Crib at Doepker Industries. He used to say that he was “a Jack of all trades, and a master of none”!
Due to health issues, Wayne retired early and used this time to work in his garden. He loved to see things grow, and he pulled a lot of weeds! He was very proud of his Strawberry and Raspberry patches. He also loved to take his young grandkids out to his garden and taught them how to pick only the red berries.
Hunting and fishing were other favorite pastimes that he enjoyed, along with reading and Jigsaw Puzzles. He had a keen interest in History, especially pertaining to the wars.
His family was what he was most proud of, and he loved it when the kids could get home for family get-togethers and for holidays.
As the years passed, his health continued to fail even more, with Type 1 Diabetes and the COPD rearing its ugly head. Together, these two diseases took a terrible toll on his body. He was hospitalized frequently, but he never once complained. He took it all in stride, and handled life to the best of his ability, doing what he could and accepting the changes when he no longer could do things he loved.
He was a “friend of Bill W.” and tried very hard to use the program in his day-to-day life. The friends he made along the way were very valuable to him, and he always gave credit to the Fellowship of AA for saving his life. This summer he had celebrated 33 years of sobriety, and he was very proud of that fact.
Wayne lived at home in Lake Lenore right up until his final trip to the hospital, where he passed on September 17, 2024. He will be missed and will forever be loved and remembered.
