The heavy rainfall this week has again brought to the forefront Rhineland Municipality's desire to complete a comprehensive drainage plan. Don Wiebe made the comment for today's Reeve on the Radio.

He noted one of the first steps was becoming a member of the Pembina Valley Watershed District, which has been done.

"Rhineland has also been consulting with an engineering firm regarding some problem areas, and we're still working with that," he explained. "And furthermore, Rhineland has been in communication with Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure, our MLA and AMM about the need to maintain, or redesign, provincial drains."

Wiebe noted, from Rhineland's perspective, there needs to be a holistic view of the watershed.

"Which takes into account weather patterns, irrigation, tile drainage and the changing farming practices that go with that."
