The Town of Diamond Valley is going towards paperless billing.

The utility bills get sent out every two months in Diamond Valley, and Town Council had approved a new utility rate for both water and sewer consumptions, which will take effect January 1st, 2025.

They will also be moving away from paper bills and switching over to digital billing.

"Rather than have it printed out, which takes up staff time, you can just sign up to eGov," explains Diamond Valley Mayor, Barry Crane. "It, basically, reduces staff time and could, potentially, save $15,000 on the budget if we can get full buy in."

Crane adds that every dollar adds up, especially when $60,000 on their operational budget can raise taxes by 1 per cent.

"We'll take every dollar we can save."

Currently, about 40 per cent of the residents have signed up for the digital bill, but Crane is hoping to get that up to 60 per cent by the end of 2025.

"It's just a matter of changing the method in which we do things, but it will all add up in the end," Crane says.

Companies like Fortis and Telus have already switched over to a paperless billing system.
