November 13, 1933 – September 17, 2024
Alphonse Henry Buhs, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024 at the age of 90. Born on November 13, 1933, in Romance, Saskatchewan, Alphonse led a life of dedication to family and farming. He received his schooling near Romance, setting the foundation for a hardworking and meaningful life. After completing his education, Alphonse worked for a power and telephone construction company. In 1954, he purchased his 1st quarter of land and started farming. On June 30th, 1959, he married Hilda Stanjek of Englefeld, beginning a partnership that would last 65 years. That fall they built their home on this quarter where they raised their family and nurtured their farm. Together, with more purchases of land, they ran a mixed farm, growing grain and raising cattle then pigs and chickens. In 1984, Alphonse and Hilda moved to Watson, but continued farming with Randy until 2009 when they fully retired. Following, Alphonse and Hilda made frequent trips to the farm to see how seeding or harvest was going, however, their 1:00 golf game with friends came first! Alphonse is survived by his devoted wife Hilda (nee Stanjek) Buhs; four children and their families: Doug (Jackie) and family, Curtis (Amber), and Jennifer (Blair); Randy (Glenda) and family, Rachel (Brett) and their children, Kiptyn, Cohen, Weston, and Dalton, and Haley (Luke); Myrna (Len) and family, Kyle (Rebecca), and their children, Piper and Jane, Lisa (Mike) and their children, Scarlet and Grayson; Shirley (Kelly) and family, Kelci (Nikolai) and their daughter Heidi, and Carissa (Garret) and their children, Brynn and Zaiden. He is also fondly remembered by his siblings: Ernie (Evelyn) Buhs, Caroline (Jim) Lokinger, and Clarence (Carol) Buhs. In addition to immediate family, Alphonse is survived by numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews, all of whom will deeply miss him. Alphonse was predeceased by his parents, William (1997) and Elizabeth (2008) Buhs; his brother Henry Buhs (1991); and other dear family members. His love for his family was steadfast, and his legacy lives on in the hearts of those who survive him. A man of many talents and interests, Alphonse was an avid curler, golfer, bowler, and pool player, as evident by more than 200 trophies. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. He found great joy in these pastimes, forming lasting friendships along the way. For many years, Alphonse and Hilda spent their winters in Yuma, Arizona, where they created cherished memories and became part of a close-knit community. Alphonse will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, his competitive spirit, and his dedication to those he loved. He leaves behind a rich legacy of laughter, love and loyalty, which will continue to inspire all who knew him. A private celebration of Alphonse’s life was held on October 26th, 2024. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered. Rest in Peace, Alphonse (Dad, Grandpa, Opa).
