The City of Calgary has launched a goat program to control invasive plants.

Is this something we could do in Cochrane? I would love to see goats munching away on weeds at Riverview Park, Cochrane Ranche, and Mitford Pond.

BAAH’D Plant Management in Langdon, Alberta, has sent 800 goats to parks in Calgary.

Their job? Eat specific weeds and types of vegetation that are choking out the grasslands.

Each goat consumes up to eight pounds of plants daily, and their droppings act as fertilizer.

One of the goats that I have become fond of is a three-legged goat named Lady Gaga.

At this time there are no plans to bring goats to Cochrane but if you want to pet some you can check out Butterfield Acres just 20 minutes east of Cochrane.
