Lanigan’s Kayden Stroeder has been selected to represent Team Saskatchewan at the 2024 WHL Cup in Red Deer next month.

The WHL Cup features the best 2009-born hockey players in western Canada, with teams from Saskatchewan, Alberta, Manitoba and British Columbia, giving the players to showcase their skills in front of scouts.

Since its inception in 2009, Saskatchewan has claimed the WHL cup on one occasion (2019). The tournament was previously called the Western Canada U16 Challenge.

Stroeder was selected 5th overall by the Edmonton Oil Kings in this year’s WHL Prospects Draft. Last year, he spent most of the season with the 15U AA Humboldt Broncos, with 127 points (58G-67A) in only 27 games.

He also had two points (1G-1A) in three games with the Prince Albert Mintos of the Sask. Male AAA Hockey League.

Team Saskatchewan opens the 2024 WHL Cup against Alberta on Wednesday, October 23.
