The Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets fans showed their appreciation for the late Gaudreau brothers with memorials outside of both teams' arenas following the brothers' tragic passing.

The Flames announced that the memorial site outside of the Saddledome will put each item and message to great use.

The numerous signs, messages, and chalk, have been photographed and will be provided to the Gaudreau family as "an everlasting digital memory book from Flames fans".

Hockey sticks will be made into benches and will be used for fundraising efforts for local charities. Plaques bearing the message "In memory of Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau," will be affixed to the benches.

The bags of Skittles and other edible items that are no longer fit for consumption will be counted and the Calgary Flames Foundation will make a financial contribution corresponding in size to the Calgary Food Bank.

The bottles of purple Gatorade will be emptied and donated to the KidSport Calgary recycling program, which will support local kids in need of access to sports programs.

Stuffed plushies left at the memorial will be donated to Parachutes for Pets, a charity supported by current Flames Mikael Backlund and Mackenzie Weegar.

Jerseys will be washed and used to design blankets for local charity organizations.

Flowers will be composted and the soil from the flowers will be laid across community parks across the city.

The remaining items will be reviewed after sorting.

"The Calgary Flames sincerely appreciate the care and concern demonstrated by Flames fans and the entire community through this difficult period. The outpouring of love and support has been truly comforting," the Calgary Flames stated in a release.

The Blue Jackets stated that they will have a reserved stall in their locker room with Johnny's jersey for the full season.

"Beginning with the club’s first preseason game at the Buffalo Sabres on Monday, September 23 through the duration of the 2024-25 season, Blue Jackets players will wear a special sticker on their helmets. The sticker is blue with gray trim and features GAUDREAU, two doves between the numbers 13, which Johnny wore throughout his career, and 21, which Matthew wore at Boston College, in white," reads a release from the Blue Jackets.

In addition, they will hold a 50/50 raffle during the pre-season and donate the proceeds to the John and Matthew Gaudreau Foundation.

On opening night on October 15, the Blue Jackets will celebrate the Gaudreau brothers, and all fans in attendance will receive the number 13 patch.
