A Winnipeg man is facing several charges after a stolen motorcycle caught fire at a gas station in the 100 block of Salter Street on the evening of September 20, 2024.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:15 p.m. when a 35-year-old man was refuelling a stolen motorcycle. While pumping gas, the motorcycle suddenly caught fire, prompting the suspect to move it away from the pumps toward a nearby dumpster.

North District General Patrol officers noticed the suspicious fire and immediately called for backup. As police responded, the suspect fled the scene but was soon located in a nearby taxi and taken into custody.

Upon his arrest, the suspect was found to be in possession of various pills, including Percocet, Xanax, and Gabapentin, as well as a weapon, which was in violation of his court orders.

The motorcycle had been reported stolen in July 2024.

The suspect is now facing a total of eight charges, including possession of property obtained by crime, possession of a scheduled substance for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of a prohibited weapon. He remains in custody pending further investigation.
