A very popular trail in K-Country is closed for construction.
Due to ongoing construction at the Highwood Pass, the following trails are closed; the Highwoods Meadow Interpretive Trail, Pocaterra Cirque and Ridge Routes, Arethusa Cirque and Ptarmigan Cirque.
It's an especially popular destination for Albertans, and tourists, to see the colours of Autumn, especially the alpine larch trees which turn a golden yellow in the Fall.
Signage was put in place at the Highway 40 and Highway 940 Junction in South K-Country.
However, if you are set on hiking amongst the larch and the changing colours of Autumn, Alberta Parks says they have a few other trails that work.
They recommend going to Centennial Ridge, Chester Lake, Yamnuska, Mt. Lorette Ponds, Prairie View or Buller Pass.
The Mist Mountain Ridge Trail is also a good destination.
Alberta Parks also reminds you to be bear aware as bears are busy preparing for hibernation and it's also rutting season for elk and moose and they can be more aggressive at this time of year.
