The Rocky View Schools Board of Trustees received another financial update at the most recent board meeting.
According to the third quarter financial update, the division's revenues and expenses are on track with expectations for the fiscal year 2023–2024 (September 1, 2023 – May 31, 2024).
"Current projections for the full year are a net surplus of $3.5 million resulting in a final reserve balance of $7.6 million which is 2.5 per cent of operating budget," stated RVS's "The Brief".
The government mandates that school divisions save one to three percent in reserves. The increase in reserves comes mainly from Maintenance and Transportation.
"The main drivers for a projected higher surplus than budget is higher revenue in transportation and lower utilities and insurance expenses in operations and maintenance."
The anticipated transportation surplus will be applied to the $2.1 million allocated shortfall for 2024–2025.
Modular classroom allocations were also announced for Airdrie and the area.
To alleviate the demands of enrollment expansion, the province government said in July that it would contribute $215 million. Rocky View Schools (RVS) will relocate up to 12 existing modular classrooms and receive up to 12 new ones as part of this.
Five of the new modular classrooms will be delivered to Airdrie; two will go to Ralph McCall and one to Herons Crossing. Airdrie will also see some relocations: Heloise Lorimer will receive four, while A.E. Bowers Elementary will receive two.
