A local town councillor's resignation was effective immediately. According to a news release, at the Town of Didsbury Regular Council meeting held on Monday, September 23, Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Ethan Gorner announced that he received a letter of resignation from Councillor Joyce McCoy.

Councillor McCoy served on the Council from 2013 to 2017 and was elected again in 2021. According to the Municipal Government Act, holding a by-election is discretionary if council resignations occur within 18 months of a General Election.

The Town of Didsbury Council will discuss this decision next month at their October 8 council meeting and will continue with the Mayor and five Councillors.

"On behalf of Council, I thank Councillor McCoy for her service to the community, and we wish her all the best," noted Mayor Rhonda Hunter.

McCoy was previously in political hot water in 2023 after the town's council sanctioned her for social media comments. Following the sanction, McCoy was removed from committees and boards.
