It's a trend that's catching on across the continent - sporting events starting earlier.

A number of Western Hockey League teams are giving it a try, including the Regina Pats. Their Saturday night games will start at 6pm this season while their home games on Sundays will start at 2 o'clock.

Pats CEO Gordon Pritchard says the hope is the earlier start times will give fans the opportunity to be a part of a "full gameday experience".

I think it works for people who get up early every day and for families with little hockey fans.

You may remember, back in the 70s, junior hockey games started at 8pm. I had time to have dinner, do my homework and have a nap before attending Moose Jaw Canucks games at the old Civic Centre. I didn't get home until after 11 o'clock at night!

But lifestyles were different back then. School didn't start 'til 9:00am, businesses didn't open until 9:00 or 10:00 and many restaurants were open until midnight or later. There aren't many of those around anymore. We didn't even have 24-hour convenience stores when I was a kid.

The times...they are a changin'.

See what I did there?
