One Elmwood church is planning a fun family activity on Friday night for the low cost of zero dollars.
Pastor Annette Smith from New Hope Community Church says it's all about connecting with the community. "This Friday night, Sept. 27, we're going to be offering a family movie night."
The church which sits at 214 Henderson Highway will open its doors at 6 p.m. before the movie starts at 6:30 p.m. "We're going to be showing Finding Nemo, but there will be other movie nights. The plan is the last Friday of every month, so movies will change. And there will be popcorn."
Smith recognizes how beneficial a free event like this can be. "We live in a time right now where money's tight and so as a church, we just wanted to come alongside our community, come alongside families and offer them something fun that they can do with no cost. Just come and have some fun. That's what we're looking to do."
As far as what she's looking forward to the most, "Just connecting with people. We just moved to Winnipeg back in June and so I just want to meet the people in our neighbourhood and anybody else in Winnipeg. I love to see what's going to happen so just offering a time for people to connect, myself included, I just want to meet people. That's really what it's all about."
Moving forward, Smith is excited to host movie nights regularly at the church on the last Friday of the month.
