An incident earlier this week after school hours at George McDougall High School prompted the involvement of school officials and the RCMP.

At approximately 4:42 p.m. on Tuesday, after students had been dismissed for the day, RCMP responded to a firearms complaint at the school. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a 17-year-old student had brought a foam dart replica gun and what appeared to be a knife or box cutter to show their peers. No charges were laid, and the case has been closed.

In response, the school sent a letter to parents emphasizing that the objects were not used threateningly but reminding families that students are prohibited from bringing weapons or weapon-like items to school. Parents were encouraged to discuss these rules with their children. It was noted that the parties involved in the incident had also been spoken to.

According to Rocky View Schools' Student Code of Conduct, students are prohibited from possessing, using, or distributing weapons or replicas on school property, including lockers and vehicles.
