The third Fruit Tree Roundup collection is being held this Saturday afternoon (Sept. 28) from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the town lagoon, 141 Bow Bend Way, by the SLS Centre.

It's a two-fold community-driven initiative that aims to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts in the community, particularly bears, while utilizing the harvest in two ways.

Picked fruit will be given to local food providers and fallen fruit will be given to the Cochrane Ecological Institute (CEI) to feed injured and orphaned wildlife.

At this the time of the year, wildlife is actively stocking up on food for the long winter ahead. They have been known to be attracted to the community to nourish on tree fruit and berries.

On Sept. 14, eight boxes of fruit were collected for local food banks and food sheds, plus about 90 lbs. for CEI.

If you have fruit to deliver but can't make it this Saturday, your last chance to do so is Oct. 5.
