Former Okotoks Dawg Matt "Tugboat" Wilkinson was not only named as a Midwest League's (MWL) All-Star but also announced as one of the four captains.
The Vancouver-born pitcher put up impressive numbers in the single-A league under the Cleveland Guardians of the MLB with eight wins and six losses in the 24 games he played this season. Tugboat had an ERA of 1.90 while pitching in 118 and two-thirds innings with 174 strikeouts on the year.
Wilkinson spent the majority of his time with the Lake County Captains and the Lynchburg Hillcats of the Carolina League. In the post-season Tugboat played in two games, pitching in 12 and one-third innings with seven strikeouts and an ERA of 2.19. He only allowed five walks and three earned runs while on the mound for playoffs.
The Captains and Wilkinson took home the MWL championship on September 19 after defeating the Timber Rattlers 9-4 in the do-or-die game three of the finals.
