The House of Commons sat for the first time since the NDP ended its Supply and Confidence deal with the Liberal Party. There, a confidence motion was put forward by the conservative party. MP for Souris Moose Mountain, Robert Kitchen, reports the basic confidence motion has been defeated.
“We have about ten votes going on, and basically the first one, which was the basic confidence motion on this Prime Minister, we finished” he continues “there is a possibility we may have a second one later on a Ways and Means motion on capital gains tax, which is also a confidence vote, and so there may be that other opportunity, but the one that we had put forward through our motion was defeated.”
Kitchen calls the support for the Liberal Party from the NDP and the Bloc unfortunate saying “The NDP came out and said that they tore up the agreement, yet they voted in favour of this Prime Minister, and the Bloc as well.”
He says they will continue their efforts to defeat the Liberal government.
“When we sit and we see this NDP/Liberal government basically has doubled the debt and has doubled our housing costs and caused the worst inflation in 40 years, and they've sent two million people to the food bank and unleashed crime and chaos in our communities.” He continues “That's what our motion was about, was to try and force confidence in this government and we could have a carbon tax election coming up, but we will continue to do that and keep pushing hard to try and get this government defeated and move forward.”
