Fourteen-year-old Ryder Bredy of Eatonia has been named Boxer of the Year at the Sandhills Boxing Club, a title that reflects his hard work, dedication, and passion for the sport. With four provincial championships under his belt, Ryder has been training with the club for six years, steadily building a reputation as one of the most promising young boxers in the region.
"Honestly, it's a huge honour," Ryder shared, expressing his gratitude for the recognition. "It kind of shows that I have respect for my coaches, and they also have respect for me. They gave me this title for the work I've done, but I also thank them for the work they’ve done with me."
Coach Kennith Blohm, who has been guiding Ryder from the start, describes him as a "born leader" with a tremendous work ethic. "Ryder started out strong, very tough, very energetic. After all the years of development, you can really see when a career starts taking off, and all the hard work begins to pay off. Here we are with the fruits of some of that labour."
This year marks a significant milestone for Ryder, as it's the first time he is old enough to qualify for the national championships. He’s already gearing up for the provincial qualifiers and says he’s “pumped” for the opportunity to compete on a national stage.
Ryder credits not only his coaches but also his family and the community for their unwavering support. "I want to thank the knockout team I’ve had—Isabel, Sheldon, Ken—but also my parents and the community for guiding me through my journey in this sport so far."
With his strong determination and the backing of his team, Ryder Bredy’s boxing career is just getting started, and many are eager to see what the future holds for this talented young athlete.
