At their September 23 meeting, High River Town Council signed a proclamation to officially recognize the month of October as Disability Employment Awareness Month (D.E.A.M).
The Town of High River will help raise awareness for D.E.A.M. by lighting up the town hall red on Tuesday evening (Oct. 1).
"Persons with disabilities are valued members of Alberta and deserve the opportunity to live and work in their community where they are respected and rewarded for their efforts, skills, and accomplishments," the proclamation partially reads.
D.E.A.M. has origins dating back to 1945 in the U.S.A. and was introduced to Canada in 2000 with Manitoba, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario.
