Most of the balloons were able to lift off Saturday morning for the 12th annual Heritage Inn International Balloon Festival.

The wind and rain have caused the previous four attempts to be cancelled.

The few hundred people who showed up at the Macleod Trail launch site this morning cheered when the first balloon was able to lift off around 8:30 a.m.

The crowd waited patiently from around 7:30 a.m. before organizer Jamie Kinghorn gave the thumbs up however it was the pilot's choice as the wind conditions were still not ideal.

Usually, there is a leader balloon known as the 'hare' which is the Eye of Ra flown by Kinghorn this year however due to the wind conditions some pilots decided not to go up.

There were also 6 paragliders flying near the launch site throughout the morning launch giving the crowd something to look at however, they are not part of the festival.

Watch their Facebook page for live updates at 4:30 p.m. today and 7:00 a.m. tomorrow.
