Beverly “Chum” Bruce Hunt
October 30, 1942 – September 27, 2024

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Bev “Chum” Hunt at age 81, after a lengthy battle with COPD. Born at Bartels’ Nursing Home in Simpson on October 30, 1942, to Art and Essie Hunt, he was welcomed by his big sister Patricia and minutes after by his twin sister Barb, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. Bev attended primary school at Farrerdale and high school in Simpson. He farmed with his dad throughout his school years and worked various jobs in the winters after graduation. He was bartending at the Prince Albert Golf & Curling Club when he met his future wife, Colleen Duprey. They married in 1969 and built a life together on their farm west of Simpson. They remained there until they sold it in 2009 and relocated to Watrous. In retirement, Bev enjoyed assisting local farmers until health challenges interrupted his passion for farming. A true jack of all trades, he was a skilled carpenter and welder, rebuilding the family home after a fire in 1982.

Together with Colleen, he raised four children—Tara, Brandy, Angela, and Miles—and took immense pride in attending their sporting events, a joy that extended to his grandchildren: Meadow Gettis, Hayley Smith, Chloe Smith, James Hunt, Vanessa Hunt, and Hunter Austin. He was a lifelong animal lover and enjoyed the company of many family pets over the years. The couple enjoyed many curling events, both as participants and spectators.  If you played cards, you could be sure to find willing participants at the Hunt household.

Bev is survived by his devoted wife, Colleen, their children Tara Hunt of Calgary, Alberta, Brandy Smith (Duane) of Chestermere, Alberta, Angela Gettis (Chad Senga) of Duval, Saskatchewan, and Miles Hunt (Tammy Austin), of Calgary, Alberta, his grandchildren, sisters Patricia (Les) Tallon and Barbara (Glenn) Moren, along with numerous nieces and nephews.  A celebration of his life was held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Simpson Community Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bev’s memory to the Salvation Army.
