Bernice Reifferscheid (née Kunz)
September 29, 1939 – September 24, 2024

It is with heavy hearts and a lifetime of memories that we announce the passing of our beloved mom, grandma, great-grandma, aunt, and sister Bernice Reifferscheid, at the age of 84 years. She passed peacefully surrounded by family. Bernice was a remarkable role model and enduring source of inspiration. Her kindness and her love of children were her greatest gifts. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in our hearts. Bernice was born on September 29, 1939, to Marie (Timmerman) and August Kunz and grew up on a farm near Spalding, SK. On August 21, 1957, Bernice married Dan Reifferscheid. They were married 64 years and were blessed with four daughters, Gail, Val, Audrey, and Lorie. Bernice began her career at the Humboldt Co-op. She later opened the Humboldt Fabric Centre, pursuing her passion for sewing and quilting as a talented seamstress. Bernice loved to spend summers at the family cabin at Waldsea Lake, and winters with Dan in Yuma. She endured many health challenges throughout her life. Bernice was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles. She loved watching Rider games and curling on TV. Mom embraced technology; her tablet allowed her to stay connected with family on Facebook and enjoyed playing various games. She valued phone calls and visits from loved ones. Bernice’s greatest passion, her love for her family, is the lasting legacy she leaves behind. Bernice is survived by daughters: Val (Neil) Doepker, Audrey (Brian) Hall, and Lorie (Dean) Tatlow; her grandchildren: Morgan (Melissa) Lukan, Jeremy (Lauren) Lukan, Kristen (Warren) Kudeba, Kimberley (Edwin) Rogers, Tim (Amy) Weisgarber, Cory (Monica) Hall, Kelsey (Kristopher) Murray, Lex (Julia Vaughan) Tatlow; and her great-grandchildren: Darcy and Drew Kudeba, Eric and Elena Rogers, Hunter and Mackenzie Hall, Kameron and Kohen Murray, Marigold and Mirabelle Lukan, and Kaia Lukan; her sister Norma (Ed) Prokopetz, her brother Ken (Deanna) Kunz, her brothers-in-law Jerome Reifferscheid, Ted (Lucille) Reifferscheid, Nicholas Jr. (Connie) Reifferscheid, and sister-in-law, Barbara Reifferscheid; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Bernice is predeceased by her husband, Dan, and daughter, Gail Lukan; her parents August and Marie Kunz; her parents-in-law Nicholas and Theresa Reifferscheid; her siblings and in-laws Jerome Kunz, Janet Kunz, Harold Kunz, Cyril Kunz, Sharen Kunz, Marjorie Pederson, Owen Pederson, Joyce Kunz; and nephews, Darrell Prokopetz, Leland Kunz, and Lance Kunz. A private family service was held. Memorial donations may be directed to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada (600 – 60 Street Clair Avenue East, Toronto, ON, M4T 1N5).
