The worry of returning material to the Cochrane Public Library (CPL) on time has been eased, thanks to the launch of an automatic item renewal service.

Effective immediately, any items owned by CPL that do not have holds placed on them will be automatically renew up to two times.

This means patrons can enjoy their favorite books, movies, and other materials without the constant worry of due dates. When an item is renewed, the borrower will receive a notification via email or text to keep them informed.

“We’re thrilled to introduce this service as part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing library access and promoting literacy in our community,” states CPL director Monique Fiedler-Sills in a news release. “Automatic Item Renewal is not just about convenience; it’s about fostering a love for reading and learning without barriers.”

It's important to note that items borrowed from other libraries may not necessarily be automatically renewed. It depends on whether or not the partner library has opted in.

But if it's from their shelves, barring some special collections and no holds, Fiedler-Sills says the automatic renewal services applies.
