The Cochrane Public Library has unveiled its brand new Homeschool Helper Kits.
There are now 20 different resources to borrow that feature a variety of subjects made specifically to support homeschool learning in the community.
The Library’s program and engagement manager Carmen Erison says these kits will go a long way in helping the surging homeschool community in Cochrane.
“We learned last year that Cochrane actually has one of the largest home school communities in the country. So we thought to ourselves, well, you know what? This is something that is very much needed in our community.”
“These kits are designed to help families who are doing homeschooling, so we're talking everything from All About Spelling, we're looking at math as well as the history of science. We have several great educational games for the younger learner, and several teacher guides as well.”
Funds for the project were donated by the Cochrane Foundation and Cochrane Home Treasures. The kits are free to borrow for anyone with a library card.
“When you go into homeschooling, this can sometimes be a bit of a costly endeavour. This gives them a chance to try them out ahead of time.”
Erison says the new supplies are just one way the Library is elevating the home school community in Cochrane.
“We have a ton of great home school-related programs that we've been doing at the library that we kicked off in the spring and we've now followed it through to the fall.”

“You'll see that these programs happen during the day when kids are in school, and the reason we do this is that gives those families opportunities to have different educational opportunities.”
