A big change for one of Cochrane's largest non-profits in town.
The Cochrane Food Bank has incorporated as a Society and will no longer operate alongside the Cochrane Activettes.
Brenda Mottle, President of the Cochrane Food Bank said the two entities are now separate, a move prompted by regulatory changes by the Canada Revenue Agency.
"Now known as the Cochrane Food Bank Society, operating under just the Cochrane Food Bank, but it's now a separate entity, distinct from the Activettes. Now that doesn't mean that we're not collaborating with them with things like the Share Your Christmas program, we'll be providing the food for that program and any other community initiative that we could do together."
Mottle stressed that the over 5000 people who use the food bank each year will not notice any major changes.
"The clients won't notice anything different. The only difference they'll notice is the logo change, the branding signs on the food bank will look different eventually."
The location, and phone number of the food bank will not change.
"We will continue to uphold the same vision, mission and values that have guided the Food Bank since its inception." stated a news release from the Cochrane Food Bank.

"We extend our deepest gratitude to the founding members of the Food Bank, the Cochrane Activettes, whose dedication, vision, and hard work have made this new chapter possible. Their unwavering commitment and vision have laid a solid foundation for the Food Bank and will continue to inspire our efforts as we work to make a meaningful impact in the community. What began with the Activettes, and humble beginnings in a church basement in 1995, has evolved into the newly incorporated Food Bank of today." reads a statement from the Cochrane Food Bank.
The move to incorporate took approximately a year and a half to complete.
