Now that autumn is officially here, the snow will fall sooner rather than later.
With snow comes the need to keep a shovel handy to help keep the neighbourhood sidewalks clear.
The High River Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) has updated their Snow Angel Program.
This year, to help reduce barriers and help out more residents in need, they are including lawn signs as part of the program.
Starting on October 15 each year, the Snow Angel Program kicks off, and anyone who is elderly or has mobility issues that prevent them from clearing snow can reach out to the FCSS and get a Snow Angel sign for their property.
The sign will let those in the neighbourhood know that the resident would like some assistance clearing the snow from their sidewalk and driveway.
Snow Angels in the area will then come and shovel the sidewalk and driveway for the resident.
The Snow Angels can be anyone from adults to youth to whole families.
There is no need to sign up, just grab a shovel and head on out.
The Town does want to remind people who get a Snow Angel sign that the sign does not guarantee the snow will be shovelled, and this program is not to be used as a snow-clearing service while people are on vacation.
Any senior in High River with a low income is eligible for financial assistance through Special Needs Assistance for Seniors to help cover the costs of yard maintenance and snow removal.
The Snow Angel program runs until April 30th.
