This week's Airdrie Techmation Thunder Spotlight belongs to Sydney Gilliss and Austin White. Gilliss was named Performer of the Week while White was named Player of the Week.

Gilliss, the Social Media Manager and Assistant General Manager for the Thunder has played a crucial role in the Thunder's season, mentioned Head Coach and General Manager Mark Kulynych.

"Syd has helped get the game day running smoothly, along with the "Rock the Rink" event on Friday," Kulynych wrote.

Having no experience running a hockey team before, Kulynych is happy to see how far she has come in little to no time at all.

"This has been a great opportunity for her to learn and potentially do this in the future. She is a great person to have on our side."

Gilliss appreciates getting recognized as the first Performer of the Week.

"It's been fun so far getting to plan all kinds of different events and just in general help the team out."

Currently attending the University of Calgary for a business degree, she feels working for the Thunder will provide useful skills for the future.

"It kind of opened up my eyes and made me realize maybe I'd want to do something that has to do with sports in the future in my career."

Gilliss hopes the team has a great season, has fun together and of course, win a lot of games.

Kulynych also wanted to thank her support staff members as well, Kylie Brander, Corey Cameron-McGregor and Lauren Koncz.

Last Friday the Thunder picked up their first win on the season as they beat the Ponoka Stampeders 4-2 on home ice. The goals were scored by Joel Taniguchi, Cayden Hartnell, Zachary Jones and Brodie Davis.

On Saturday, when the Thunder defeated the Red Deer Vipers, the Player of the Week, goaltender Austin White got the start in net and had a big game.

"Austin “Ozzy” White shut the door on Saturday stopping 41 of 42 shots, he was tested throughout the game and was stellar. We got into penalty trouble and Ozzy was our best penalty killer. We are going to need our goalies to steal us a few games early while we find our chemistry, he did just that," wrote Kulynych.

On the season the Thunder are 2-2. Tomorrow they look to add another win as the High River Flyers come to Airdrie for an 8 p.m. matchup at the Ron Ebbesen Arena. Tomorrow is also the "Rock the Rink" event where they will be having live music from the Ashley Garrett Band. Tickets are only $10 and can be purchased by emailing airdriethunder@shaw.ca.

Saturday they round out the week by visiting the Mountain View Colts.
