The well fire north of Cochrane that injured five workers on Monday is now out. 

According to an updated news release from HWN Energy Ltd., a "well control incident" occurred Monday afternoon at a site roughly eight kilometres north of Cochrane. However, by early Tuesday afternoon, "the fire was extinguished, and the well was brought under control."

According to the company, by 5:30 p.m. there was no further release of liquids or gases. 

Five workers on site were injured and taken to hospital after the explosion that occurred at around 2 p.m. Monday. 

Details on the extent of their injuries have not been released.

RCMP reported that it believed a crew struck a gas pocket while drilling, which triggered a large explosion that injured the workers.

The company addressed the concerns of the local community and assured the public that every possible measure was taken to manage the incident effectively.

HWN also stated that it continues to monitor the situation and remains committed to cooperating with ongoing investigations by representatives of the Alberta Energy Regulator and Occupational Health and Safety officers.
