Electrical fire causes significant damage to family home

A fire Tuesday afternoon caused significant damage to a home near Valley Gardens.

The fire broke out just after 1 p.m. in a single-family bungalow in the 1000 block of Simpson Avenue.

Heavy smoke was pouring out of the house when crews arrived. Firefighters began battling the fire from inside the home. It took about a half hour to get under control.

Residents of the home were able to evacuate before crews arrived. One person was assessed at the scene but did not require a trip to the hospital.

Fire investigators believe the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical malfunction. 

The house sustained significant smoke, fire and water damage.

Fire officials continue to investigate.
