It's Day 2 of the Saskatchewan election as conversations are taking place across the province.
Cypress Hills MLA Doug Steele is entering his third campaign after first getting elected in 2016.
"There's a lot of things I like to speak with our constituents over right now," said Steele. "The world is in a crazy space and the province of Saskatchewan I feel we've been strong and moving forward, so I'm looking forward to meeting with constituents as we move around down the campaign trail."
While the Saskatchewan Party has been in power since 2007, Steele knows there is a lot of work to do.
"It comes down like healthcare and education, a lot of those I'd like to get that stability in our local health facilities where we're not at occasionally services aren't available," Steele said. "We're working on that for stability with education. We want it to be strong and deliver the type of education that our students need to be strong leaders in the future."
He plans to be an advocate for resource industries in the region.
"We need to stand behind our industries, whether it's agriculture or oil and gas," Steele said. "Those folks are the backbone of our economies, they employ people. There's been new developments with helium in the Southwest and across the province with other types of resources. We're willing to change, but we just can't forget the businesses and the resources that built our province and our economies of our communities."
Polls before the election indicate the Saskatchewan New Democratic Party has a lot more support than they did before the 2020 election.
"I look at in two ways," Steele said. "I respect they're taking a look and not saying that we did everything right or we're doing everything right, but we try really hard and hearing from our constituents gives us the opportunity to talk with them and find out what maybe we're not quite doing to what they think could be the best."
Steele's declared opponents so far include Clare McNab of the NDP and Clayton Cave of the Green Party.
