The OOAA/OMHA is hosting an ACAC game on Sunday (Oct. 6) at 4:00 p.m. when the Sait Trojans Women's hockey team faces off against the Medicine Hat Rattlers.

With women's hockey thriving, especially since the introduction of the PWHL last year, it's a great way to see the women's game up close.

Jennifer Dustow, who is a part of the Okotoks Female Hockey Development, explains how they are bringing the Trojans in for a hockey game at Viking Rentals Centre.

"Amanda McLeod, the head coach of the Sait Trojans Women's team, she was a member of the Rocky Mountain Raiders female team here in Okotoks and she was one of our head coaches for the U15 AA team a couple of years ago. There has been some relationship there, some prior history and she presented the idea to the Okotoks Oilers Atheltic Association last spring. So, here we are," Dustow said.

Dustow added that many youthful girls look up to the athletes in the PWHL and said that Okotoks has the third-largest female hockey program in Alberta, making it an easy choice to bring the Trojans to Viking Rentals Centre on Sunday.

The game is a part of the Trojans exhibition series, and it will be free to attend.

Dustow explains what fans can expect to see on top of the game Sunday.

"We are also going to be showcasing some of our local female talent. We are going to have our U11s out on the ice for pre-game warmup and standing at centre ice with these ladies for the national anthem. At first intermission we will have our U9s on display, having a little intermission scrimmage on the ice for spectators to enjoy. At the second intermission, we are going to have U15 AA girls do a score to win."

After the game, the Trojans are expected to sign autographs and take pictures with those who are interested.

Dustow also added that there will be some local players on the ice for the Trojans and hopes that the community will come out and enjoy women's hockey.
