If you are in Wakaw on Thursday night, you can grab a blanket and a lawn chair along with some snacks and head down to the school grounds for a free movie night beginning at 6:00.
The Humboldt Regional Newcomer Centre will provide the movie on a big outdoor screen.
Settlement Worker in School (SWIS) Team Lead Jenn Hansen says one of the goals of the Humboldt Regional Newcomer Centre is to welcome and engage all immigrant students and their families with their schools and their community.
“To incorporate the whole community, we thought we would do a movie night.”
Disney and Pixar’s Elemental will be the movie that will be shown on the outdoor screen and Hansen said it will be perfect viewing for the whole family.
“The movie is kind of based on feelings and differences and just coming together.”
Based in Humboldt, Hansen says the Settlement Worker in School program covers the entire Horizon School Division, ranging from communities including Ituna, Wadena and Kelvington in the east and towards the south in towns including Watrous, Imperial, Holdfast, Bulyea and Strasbourg.
Before the movie night, the Wakaw School will be holding an open house from 3:30-4:30, as residents will get a chance to see what is happening at the school.
That will be followed by Wakaw’s School Community Council (SCC) will be hosting a barbecue from 4:30-6.
