After reporting technical problems earlier on Wednesday, Rocky View Schools (RVS) said it continues to experience phone and internet service disruptions due to a cut in a fibre optic cable near Calgary.
RVS added that the telecommunications vendor has not provided a firm estimate for when the issue will be resolved. However, schools remain open despite the outage, and classes will proceed without internet access.
Parents and guardians with urgent matters are encouraged to email their school principal or assistant principal, as these messages can still be received on their mobile phones. However, this contact method should only be used for urgent communication.
Attendance will be recorded on paper and entered into PowerSchool once access is restored. Families will not receive notifications regarding late arrivals or absences during the outage.
Teachers and other staff cannot access email from their school devices, so they cannot respond to non-urgent emails until the system is back online. Parents are asked to hold off on sending emails until services are fully restored for non-urgent matters.
