As the temperatures begin to drop and it becomes more comfortable to be indoors for leisure activities, you don’t have to be Hall of Famer Pete Weber to make use of the local bowling alley.
Open registration
VB’s Entertainment is making it easy for anyone and everyone to pick up a bowling ball this fall. After Thanksgiving, the alley will begin its league bowling, for which registration is already open. In the meantime, for those who are new to the game or have questions about it, there will be an information day at the alley on Saturday (October 5th) from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“You can come, and you can basically learn everything you need to know about your league for the year,” says Morgan Wiebe of VB’s Entertainment. “You can get your quote for the year, . . . you can pay — we're going to have that all set up so you can get all that done and out of the way before league even starts, and you can kind of learn how the scoring is going to work. [In the men’s league] we're updating our scoring just a little bit to make it even more fun.”
There will also be information about the mixed league and the junior bowling league for people under the age of 17.
Wiebe says that for his part, though he wouldn’t call himself a “proficient” bowler, he does love the sport.
“I think it's easy to grasp,” he says. “There's a lot of sports where you're always questioning . . . the rules like offsides and icing and all that, [but with] bowling you just have to know two things: throw [the ball] and hit as many pins as you can. It’s not more complicated than that.”
The details
The base cost for the men’s league is $372, the mixed league is $276, and the junior league is $200. Added fees include GST and the rental of shoes and a locker for the men’s and mixed league. Rentals are optional. League bowlers are free to bring their own shoes and store their equipment elsewhere. For the junior league, the base fee includes shoe rental for the season.

“Our [league] numbers are growing again, so it's really good to see,” says Wiebe, who adds that for children especially, bowling is a good low-stakes social activity.
"I think it's a great opportunity to make friends and just meet new people in the community at a young age,” he says. “You don't have to be super athletic [to bowl].”
Casual bowlers welcome
Wiebe notes that those who can’t commit to league bowling are also welcome to bowl during the week.
“We still have plenty of lanes open even on league night,” he says. “We [also] have days where there isn't league bowling. You can still come and bring your big groups. We know a lot of youth groups like to take advantage of that, so they show up on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.”
For the non-bowlers, VB’s also has an arcade, mini golf, virtual golf, pool tables, and a play structure for children ages 12 and under. King Pinz Bar & Grill is also on site with a full menu and cocktails.
