As of October 2, Banff National Park has officially closed the Pharaoh Lake area to all traffic and travel, effective until October 31.

This decision is a precautionary measure due to a black bear feeding on a nearby carcass.

The closure includes the popular trail connecting Pharaoh Lake, Black Rock Lake, Sphinx Lake, and the surrounding area. Park officials urge visitors to respect this closure to ensure their safety and the well-being of wildlife.

"Under Section 36(1) of the National Parks General Regulations of the Canada National Parks Act, this area is off-limits to all traffic and travel by order of the Superintendent," a statement from the park read.

Violating the closure can lead to significant penalties. Individuals in the restricted area may face charges under the Canada National Parks Act, with a maximum penalty of $25,000.
