In November 2023, the team of Shaun Meachem, Kelly Schafer and Chris and Teejay Haichert from the Swift Current Curling Club captured the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship on home ice, and they will soon be heading to Aberdeen, Scotland to represent Canada at the World Mixed Curling Championship from October 11-19.

The Swift Current Curling Club is putting on a send-off for the team tonight at 8:30 p.m. with members and fans invited to attend and wish them luck. There will also be a Canadian flag that people can sign that will be brought to the event by the team next week.

Colin Powers talked with Curling Club President Melody Robertson this morning about the send-off and the other big events coming to the Curling Club, including the Western Showdown with Brad Gushue, Rachel Homan, Kerri Einarson and other top Canadian and international teams competing for cash, plus a special Speedy Creek Shootout men's event in March with seven-time world champion Niklas Edin coming back to Swift Current to play before his team represents Sweden at the 2025 World Men's championship in Moose Jaw.
