The driver of a pickup truck is facing impaired driving charges after a fiery crash earlier this week.
The Manitoba RCMP says in a press release that Mounties and fire crews responded to the scene of a single-vehicle rollover on Tuesday on Highway 222. The truck was found on its side in a ditch and was engulfed in flames, according to the RCMP.
Police say that a woman arrived at the scene, screaming for someone she believed was inside the burning vehicle. However, officers quickly determined that no one was in the truck. Witnesses reported seeing a man walking away from the crash site.
Police found the 30-year-old man about half a kilometre from the scene. He refused medical attention and resisted arrest after officers determined he was impaired. He was charged with impaired driving, leaving the scene of a collision, and resisting arrest.
The woman then drove up again to where the man was in police custody and officers believed that she was also impaired. A breath test registered a warning level of blood alcohol content, and officers drove her home.
Investigators are continuing to look into the cause of the fire, which is not believed to have been caused by the crash.
