Students, staff, and parents in Rocky View Schools (RVS) can breathe a sigh of relief. The recent phone and Internet outage has been resolved. The telecommunications vendor responsible for RVS services has successfully repaired the damaged fibre optic cable, and full service has been restored.

The outage, which began on October 2, was caused by a cut fibre cable near Calgary. It left RVS schools without Internet and phone access for two days. During the disruption, schools remained open, with classes continuing as usual, though staff and students had to manage without digital resources.
Parents and guardians were encouraged to email school principals or assistant principals for urgent matters, as staff could access email on their phones but not from school devices. However, communication for non-urgent matters was delayed until the issue could be resolved.
During the outage, attendance was recorded manually on paper, and schools assured families that notifications of late arrivals or absences would be updated in PowerSchool once the system came back online.
