For years, the world seemed to move on without him as he struggled to find a place to call home. But with the help of Siloam Mission, "Mark" (name changed) has been able to turn his life around and take an important step toward a brighter future.

"It feels like I’m reclaiming a part of myself that I thought was lost."

"Getting back on my feet wasn’t easy," he says. "When you’re living without a place to call home, it feels like every door is shut. But Siloam… they were there for me when I had nowhere else to turn. They didn’t just give me a meal or a bed, they gave me a chance to rebuild my life.”

Mark recently started a new job as a cook, fulfilling a lifelong passion. “To say I’m excited is an understatement. I’ve always loved being in the kitchen, and now I get to do it for a living,” he shares. “Every time I step into that kitchen, it feels like I’m reclaiming a part of myself that I thought was lost.”

For Mark, it’s more than just a job—it’s a step toward something better. “I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Siloam. They supported me when I needed it the most, not just with the essentials, but with guidance, with hope. They believed in me when I didn’t even believe in myself.”

Now, each time he puts on his apron, Mark is reminded of how far he has come and the gratitude he feels for the support he received. "I’m finally building a future again, and I can’t thank Siloam and the donors enough for being part of that."

Since 1987, Siloam Mission has been helping individuals in Winnipeg overcome homelessness through their holistic approach. Rooted in their Christian faith, Siloam offers practical services such as meals, shelter, and clothing, but also focuses on long-term recovery through mental health, addiction recovery, and life-skills programs. Through their mission, they aim to help individuals like Mark reclaim their dignity and reach their potential.

Next week, from October 8-10, you can join us for the Change Happens Radiothon as we broadcast live from Siloam Mission.

In the lead-up to Thanksgiving, it’s an opportunity to give back and support people like Mark who are working to rebuild their lives.
