The Estevan Early Years Family Resource Centre is gearing up for a significant event aimed at supporting early childhood development in the community. With a special focus on parents, day home operators, daycare staff, and educators, the upcoming Early Childhood Summit will take place on October 19 at Southeast College, offering guidance from three local leaders on early childhood education and care.
During a recent interview on SUN 102, Melanie Young, an early learning coach with the Southeast Cornerstone School Division, discussed her role in fostering early childhood development and her work with the Family Resource Centre. As an instructional coach, Young supports children from birth to age five, their families, and pre-K to kindergarten programs. She highlighted a variety of initiatives she leads at the Family Resource Centre, including Early Learning Moments, Masterminds, and Behavior Talks—a collaborative platform where parents share strategies for managing challenges like meltdowns and bedtime routines.
The Early Childhood Summit will feature three speakers, each covering crucial topics in early development. Young herself will speak on the power of play, while Brooke Zulak, a local speech-language pathologist, will address language development and the importance of early intervention. Rounding out the trio is Trina Battersby, who will focus on understanding and managing meltdowns.
The event, which is free and open to parents, early childhood educators, and caregivers, will take place on October 19 at Southeast College. Registration is required, and attendees can sign up through a link available on the Estevan Early Years Family Resource Centre’s Facebook page.
