The Royal Alexandra Hospital Foundation has a new lottery that will help several local health centres.

The Split the Pot Lottery is a way for people to support hospitals and healthcare foundations across the province.

"Split the Pot Lottery is a new provincial-wide initiative where 30 hospitals and health foundations and trusts are all getting involved to support this program," explained the Fund Development and Communications Officer with the High River District Health Care Foundation, Cathy Couey.

The High River District Care Foundation had previously held smaller 50/50 lotteries, but they decided to join in on this lottery to offer a bigger pot to those who have supported the smaller lotteries they have held.

This is the first time the Split the Pot Lottery is being held, and there is a guaranteed jackpot of $100,000 and over $50,000 in Early Bird prizes.

50 per cent of the jackpot will be split among 13 winners, and the other 50 per cent will be divided up among 30 hospitals and healthcare foundations in Alberta.

The winner of the lottery will receive 60 per cent of the winner's payout, while the rest of the money will be divided amongst the other 12 winners.

There will also be 10 Early Bird winners selected.

"Great thing about this lottery program is when you go to purchase your tickets, you get to select where your funds are directed towards. In our case, purchasers will have the option to choose the High River Hospital, the Nanton Community Health Centre, or the Silver Willow Lodge in Nanton. So, that's a really neat aspect for our supporters to be able to be assured they are able to continue hometown healthcare here locally while having a chance to win a significant amount of money," Couey says.

She adds that it's important for the donors to know where their money is going as part of this lottery.

On top of choosing which centre will receive portions of the funding, there is also an option to support all of the participating healthcare foundations.

Proceeds from that will be shared amongst all locations.

Couey says they will be using the funds from this lottery as a 'Greatest Need' fund.

"Those are unrestricted funds that allow us to respond to the most current and urgent needs of our local healthcare team and allowing it to be flexible so we can respond to those needs," Couey says.

They will use this money for things like for things like portable oxygen monitors, home care, staff scholarships, and more.

The lottery will run for six weeks, and the draw will happen on November 14.

A second lottery will be kicking off in December.

Tickets cost $15 each, 25 tickets for $25, 100 for $50, or 400 for $100.
