Residents who go the extra mile with volunteer work in the community of Watrous have the chance to be recognized with the Citizen and Coach of the Year Awards.
Nomination forms are now available at the town office in Watrous or online at the Town of Watrous website.
Recreation Director Chelsea Murfitt says volunteerism is something that is taken under strong consideration for Citizen of the Year.
“Just someone who is widely known in the community who is volunteering or helping out, or just doing good things.”
When it comes to Coach of the Year, Murfitt says it’s open to someone who takes their time leading a local team.
“Could be a high school or elementary school coach or just someone who’s been with the team for a long time or someone who they feel deserves recognition after a really good year.”
Murfitt noted one of the reasons the town decided to honour citizens and coaches so that others would get inspired to help within the community.
“Just having people who looking up to people who are doing these great things in town, it definitely amps up the volunteerism in town.”
Both winners will be formally recognized at the town’s Christmas party.
The nomination deadline is November 1.
