There was no shortage of Foothills-area athletes at the Canadian Finals Rodeo (CFR) held in Edmonton from October 2-5.
One highlight was Longview's Bradi Whiteside taking the All Around Cowgirl title after strong showings in both barrel racing and breakaway roping, taking $66,215.15 from both events combined.
Here's the breakdown of the performances from the athletes representing the Foothills and surrounding areas:
Barrel Racing
Bradi Whiteside landed in the top five in three of the rounds, taking the day money in the third.
She placed fifth overall, with Jayden Wilson of Gleichen placing eighth.
Breakaway Roping
Nanton's Jenna Dallyn placed third in the CFR aggregate standings and fourth overall, finishing in the top three in three of the five rounds.
Sisters Bradi and Kylie Whiteside made their mark too, placing sixth and eighth overall, with Bradi taking the top spot in round two and fourth in two other rounds.
Nanton's Lakota Bird landed in seventh overall, with Shaya Biever of Claresholm taking the 10th spot.
Saddle Bronc
Millarville's Layton Green ended up finishing second in the CFR standing and third overall, netting $63,795.41.
He landed himself in the top five in four out of five rounds, even taking the day money on day two.
Green had some stiff competition too, namely Zeke Thurston, who took his fifth consecutive Canadian saddle bronc championship despite placing third in the CFR standings.
Lucas Macza of High River ended up fourth overall, with Nanton's Kolby Wanchuk in seventh, Kole Ashbacher of Arrowwood in 10th, and Sawyer Erikson of Okotoks in 12th.
Bull Riding
Edgar Durazo, who originally hails Mexico but lives near High River, had a strong showing, placing second in the CFR aggregate and the overall standings.
Jordan Hansen of Amisk Alberta (formerly of Okotoks) ended up seventh overall, with Arrowwood's Beau Gardner in ninth.
Bareback Riding
Nantonites Ty Typotat and Brett Williams landed in eighth and ninth place overall, with Kody Lamb of Sherwood Park taking the top spot in the CFR standings and overall.
Steer Wrestling
Harley Cole and Jonny Webb, both of Okotoks, placed 10th and 12th overall, respectively.
Cole and Webb placed in the top five in the second round, with Cole tying for second place on the night and fourth place in the fourth round.
Tie-Down Roping
Logan Bird of Nanton ended the championship in fifth, tying for third place in round two and taking third again in round four.
