As residents prepare for Thanksgiving and Halloween, major companies are already gearing up for the holiday season, with Amazon leading the charge in Rocky View County.

The retail giant recently announced plans to ramp up operations across Canada, including hiring 9,000 employees for full-time, part-time, and seasonal roles.

Amazon will open five new last-mile delivery stations across the country by the end of this month, one of which will be in Rocky View County. These stations are meant to enhance Amazon's last-mile delivery network and ensure faster delivery times for regional customers.

"Amazon delivery stations are localized facilities focusing on the last-mile delivery process, connecting products to customers in a particular region. Employees sort, scan, and prepare customer packages before loading them onto delivery vehicles," the company stated.

In addition to expanding its workforce, Amazon is increasing its investment in employee compensation. The company has dedicated over $100 million (CAD) this year to raise pay for customer fulfillment and logistics employees in Canada.

This investment raises Amazon's average hourly base wage to $22.25, up from approximately $20.80 in 2023.
