Mark your calendars for the annual Jacket Racket event on October 19, where the growing need for winter essentials will be met with community generosity as donations pour in to support those in need.
During this time, Cochranites in need of warm winter clothing will have the opportunity to access gently used winter attire.
Donations of clean, gently used winter clothing for all age groups and sizes are currently being accepted.
Kathleen Dennis with the Family Resource Network (FRN) said they're they're always in need of extra winter boots and youth winter jackets.
"We need mitts, toques, jackets, snow pants as well, and also Halloween costumes. If kids don't like to wear their Halloween costumes more than once, like my kids, we're also accepting Halloween costumes for donation."
The need continues to grow exponentially each year said Kim Krawec, manager, Family & Community Support Services (FCSS).
"In 2020 we had 153 adults and children access coats and last year in 2023 we jumped up to 551 people. We've seen a huge, dramatic increase."
Donations included 379 jackets, 63 pairs of boots and 276 mitts, hats and scarves last year.
