For the first time in Okotoks Oilers history, they met with the Penticton Vees and the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in regular season play.

Unfortunately the Green and Gold could not pick up a win over the weekend with a 5-1 loss to the Vees and then a 4-2 loss to the Silverbacks.

Friday (Oct. 4) was the first of four meetings between former Oiler Conyr Hellyer who captains the Vess and the Oilers. Over 3,000 fans packed the South Okanagan Events Centre for the Vees home opener.

Spencer Rheaume got the lone goal in the second period for the Green and Gold with assistant captain Cyle Clayton and Oilers rookie Ryan Boyce getting the assists. Jacob Goudreau wouldn't be able to find the back of the net as his goal streak ended at three games.

Simon Westling would make 29 saves in the Oilers loss to the Vees.

On Saturday's game, team captain Jackson Rowland opened up the scoring with 1:21 into the game. Hunter Sawka and Luke Calabria picked up the helpers. Silverbacks would then score three unanswered goals to go up 3-1.

Rowland continued trying to carry his team on his back with a second goal with just three minutes left on the clock in the third. Brayden Duy and Jamie Hikida got the assists on the goal. Salmon Arm cemented the game with 30 seconds left when they scored on an empty net.

Olivier Ciarlo had 28 saves in the loss for the Oilers.
